Our food

What ingredients are in CatChi?

CatChi is a fresh food diet with +95% meat! Our meat is high quality & human grade. For a detailed list see our recipes.

What does "human-grade" food mean?

Human-grade ingredients ensure higher quality and safety standards in your cat’s food. These ingredients are free from harmful additives and fillers, providing pure, wholesome nutrition. We've seen first hand the quality of what goes in to many pet food brands, and we want to change that. We know that by offering high quality food that we're providing a safe and nourishing diet for your little ones.

Is CatChi complete & balanced, what does that mean?

Yes! Every CatChi recipe meets the industry standard for cat food requirements, AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials).

CatChi goes well beyond the minimums, our food is designed to be the best food our cats can get with 95%+ meat, gentle cooking and the correct vet formulation.

CatChi is a single protein recipe, what does that mean?

Each of our recipe's will only ever have a single protein in them. You can rest assured that if you are serving your cat a chicken meal it only has great chicken ingredients.

This is really important, especially if your cat has any allergies or occasionally gets loose stools. It can be a sign that something they're eating may not be agreeing with them.

How do you prevent any cross contamination of proteins?

We have a defined 3 step process:

1) Dedicated days for each protein, we never mix proteins on a single day

2) Rigorous state of the art cleaning and decontamination processes

3) Clear labelling and handling protocols.

Is CatChi raw?

No. CatChi is gently cooked, similar to how we cook food for ourselves.

Gently cooking the food removes any harmful bacteria and parasites that you can get in raw food, while maintaining the nutrients that are often lost in tinned food that has undergone sterilisation.

Is CatChi grain free?

Yes! All four of CatChi's recipes are grain free and in fact contain less than 1% carbohydrates, learn more about our recipes.

Cats are obligate carnivores, meaning their bodies are designed to digest and metabolise animal proteins and fats, not carbohydrates. Many dry foods contain 30-50% carbohydrates and can cause insulin spikes, leading to increased risk of weight gain, diabetes and often a smellier litter box...

How do I store & serve CatChi?

CatChi food is made fresh, then frozen. CatChi meals should be stored in your freezer. Simply defrost (they’re suitable to store for 4 days in the fridge) before serving.

How does CatChi's meal portioning work?

Our standard portion has been designed for indoor adult cats with an ideal weight of between 4-5kg. If you have a kitten, are worried about their weight or their weight falls outside of this range, email us at meow@catchi.com.au for a personalised feeding guide.

Is CatChi suitable for my kitten?

Yes! CatChi is complete and balanced for all life stages, so you have the added benefit that you don't need to switch foods again.

Our food is perfectly designed with optimal nutrients for your growing kitten. As your kitten grows they will need larger amounts of food, you will likely have to serve the ~3 times per day with their small tummies at the beginning.

Is CatChi suitable for my senior cat?

Yes! CatChi is complete and balanced for all life stages.

Senior cats typically need high protein and high moisture diets to preserve their muscles and keep their kidneys clear and hydrated. CatChi has the right level of moisture at ~70% the same as meat, and good levels of protein with our <1% carbohydrate, so you know they're getting what they need!

Where is CatChi made?

We’re a proud Aussie business, headquartered in Sydney. Our ingredients are sourced from Australia and everything is made right here.

Switching

My cat’s a bit of a fuss pot, have any tips?

Did you know, 30% of cats need extra time when it comes to switching their food?

By nature they are wary creatures and can need a bit of coaxing to help move them to more nutritious food.

In our welcome pack (p4) and (p7) we've included some helpful tips and information. If you're still persistent and your cat is extra wary, get in touch about our persistence guarantee by emailing meow@catchi.com.au we've got some extra special help we can provide.

My cat has a pre-existing health condition, can I serve CatChi?

Yes, and we’re here to help, we've helped lots of cats and cat parents - email us at meow@catchi.com.au for a tailored guide for your cats condition.

My cat had an upset tummy (vomitting/diarrhoea), what do I do?

An upset tummy is normal within the first few days, especially for cats who have been eating a diet high in processed food. Their microbiome needs time to adjust to their new, high quality food. Consistency is important, so keep feeding your CatChi and keep notes. The vomiting and/or diarrhoea should stop in 2-3 days, if symptoms persist consult your vet.

My cat turns their nose up at any new food, what can I do?

Cats are notoriously wary creatures, suspicious of changes in routine. From our customer feedback we've found that ~30% are very wary of any new food.

If you fall into this category we have a number of tips for you:

1) Wait 12 hours before serving their first CatChi, try adding sprinkles and/or heat to increase the aroma.

2) After 3-4 attempts without other food, it's time to try a mixing strategy, either with their favourite treat or their current food.

3) If the mixing hasn't worked for your little one working it's time to bring in the big guns, email meow@catchi.com.au for our specialist tips.

What's in your sprinkles, my cat loves them!

We're so glad to that! It's 100% dehydrated chicken breast, made into a delightful topper and a helpful introduction for a cat to their CatChi (or just a bit of fun for you and them!)

Is my cat at their ideal weight?

If you can feel their ribs without pressure, see a slight indentation at their waist behind their ribs, and there is no visible sign of a sagging belly, your cat is likely at their ideal weight.
