Your cats like their food warm. Try any of these methods:
- Boiling water (2-3 tablespoons per meal)
- Microwave 10 seconds
- Pan fry on medium heat for 1-2 minutes
Cats have only 5% of the taste buds we do, but 20 times more smell receptors. They build trust through smell, and warming the food is your biggest success strategy.
Below is our full guide for switching your cat's food.
- 1Remove any other food sources for 12 hours.
- 2Heat the first meal.
- 3Top with the sprinkles.
- 4Persist with each recipe for 48 hours.
1. Remove other food for 12 hours
Ensuring your cat has an appetite is important. If you leave dry food out normally, take it away during the switching period. Cats are habitual creatures and we want to create a new habit.
2. Heat the first meal
The most impactful step. There are 3 recommended methods. Each changes texture as well as adding heat, and both are very important. Start with one. If you don't have any success with it, try the others.
- Boiling water. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons to the meal and stir gently.
- Microwave. Pop the plate in for 10 seconds. You're warming, not cooking.
- Pan fry. Gently fry on a medium heat for 1 to 2 minutes with a little olive oil.
Any of the three works.
3. Top with the sprinkles
The smell is aromatic and cats love it. Serve as much as they like to help draw more curiosity.
4. Persist with each recipe for 48 hours
70% of cats switch within the first 4 days. Others need further persistence.
Stay with the same recipe for a full 48 hours. Reheat every 4 to 6 hours and top with sprinkles each time. If your cat isn't interested after 48 hours, switch proteins and try again.
We've never met a cat who doesn't love the sprinkles.
