Why Your Cat is Obsessed with Texture

We’re always discussing the differences of certain textures of food for cats. From pâtés to chunks and everything in between. Why? Well, when you know that cats have around 500 taste buds, (we’ve got around 9,000 for context!), you see why texture is such a key element of the food.

Cats are often labelled as "fussy" or “picky”, really they’re wary of anything new, but knowing how to encourage them into something new can go a long way (it doesn’t always solve it, but it definitely helps!).

The "Mincey Paste" Texture

A lot of wet cat food falls into extremes: a pâté or bitey chunks. Our testing led us to our own texture, we describe it as a "mincey paste", a hybrid texture designed to mimic the natural dietary experience of a feline.

  • Ease of Digestion: The paste-like consistency allows for easier breakdown in the stomach, making it ideal for cats with sensitive tummies or seniors.
  • Instinctive Engagement: The mince provides some resistance and bites, satisfying their instincts.

Gently Cooked: Remove the risk, keep it fresh

A lot of commercial cat foods are "ultra-processed" at extreme temperatures, which can destroy vital amino acids and dry out the natural juices. Or you’re looking at a raw food which carries an element of risk of pathogens and harmful bacteria.

CatChi is different. We use a gently cooked formula. By using lower temperatures, we:

  1. Lock in Moisture: Cats have a low thirst drive and get most of their hydration from their food. Our formula is naturally hydrating.
  2. Preserve Nutrients: We keep the vitamins and minerals intact, so we don't have to add "fillers" or synthetic boosters.
