We recommend meat based diets with high moisture and low carbohydrates.

Cats get their hydration from food.
They evolved in the desert.
Cats have a naturally low thirst drive because they originally evolved in arid environments. They rely heavily on the moisture in their food to stay hydrated, not from a water bowl.
Kibble is typically only 8-12% moisture. CatChi is approximately 70% moisture, the way nature intended.

Their digestive system is not designed for carbs.
Cats are carnivores.
In the wild, cats hunt small mammals and birds. Their natural diet is almost entirely meat, high in protein, rich in moisture, and virtually zero carbohydrates.
Yet most commercial cat food is the opposite. Filled with grains, rice, corn, and other fillers that cats simply aren't designed to process.
Sadly, too many commercial foods are low in hydration and filled with carbs.

Leading to increases in UTIs, obesity and diabetes.
The consequences.
A diet high in carbohydrates and low in moisture can contribute to real health issues. These are some of the most common conditions vets see:
CatChi is here to change that.
Every recipe is over 95% meat, ~70% moisture and less than 1% carbohydrates.

Myths about cat food.
Cat teeth are designed to slice, not grind. The best way to reduce plaque is through brushing, not chewing biscuits. Most dental disease happens below the gum line and dry food does nothing to target this. It actually reduces moisture in the mouth and feeds bad bacteria. Things that make dental health worse. A meat based diet, high in moisture helps to maintain good bacteria in the mouth.
Creative labelling is the biggest trick in cat food in Australia. According to local guidelines, 'Chicken flavour' doesn't have to have any chicken at all, it just needs to smell and taste like chicken. Next we have products named 'with' chicken, these only need to have 3% chicken. Lastly, we have creative names like 'Chook', 'Chicken Dinner' or even 'Chicken Recipe', these only have to have 25% chicken. The only time the recipe needs to be mostly chicken is if that's the only name. At CatChi, all our recipes are named this way. And all our recipes contain at least 95% of that protein. No creative labels here.
Cats are obligate carnivores. In the wild they eat meat, not grain. Their digestive system isn't designed for carbohydrates. Meat provides what they need, fillers don't.
Improper nutrition plays a major role in skin conditions. The gut is the body's largest immune organ and persistent inflammation from poor diet has widespread effects, one of the most common visible conditions is skin disease.
Omega oils and key vitamins show significant changes to coat quality. 7 out of 10 CatChi customers report shinier, softer coats within a week of switching.
I've always believed that pets should be fed as close as possible to their natural diet. Cats are obligate carnivores, meaning they thrive on a meat based diet and don't metabolise carbohydrates very well. Cats also have a naturally low thirst drive as they originally evolved in desert environments. This means they rely heavily on the moisture in their food to stay hydrated. Feeding a high-quality wet food not only supports hydration but can significantly benefit their overall health. My own cats eat CatChi and I confidently recommend it to my feline patients.
And our customers love it too.
